So.. does Lip Blush Hurt?

Lip blush tattoo is becoming an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure among those who desire a natural-looking tint on their lips. This technique involves depositing pigment into the lips using a small needle, resulting in a semi-permanent color that can last for up to three years. However, one of the most commonly asked questions about lip blush tattoos is whether or not the procedure is painful.

So, does lip blush tattoo hurt?

The short answer is that everyone's pain tolerance is different, so what one person may find painful, another may not. However, with proper numbing techniques and precare, the pain associated with lip blush tattoos can be minimized.

During the procedure, a numbing cream is applied to the lips to reduce any discomfort. This cream typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes to fully take effect. Once the lips are numb, a small needle is used to deposit pigment into the skin. While you may feel some pressure, most people describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain.

After the procedure, it is common to experience some swelling and tenderness in the lips. This discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and by applying a cold compress to the lips.

It is also important to follow proper aftercare instructions to minimize any pain or discomfort. This includes avoiding hot or spicy foods, kissing, and using a straw for the first few days after the procedure. It is also important to keep the lips moisturized and to avoid picking at any scabs that may form.

Precare instructions are just as important as aftercare instructions. Some factors such as your menstrual cycle can have a huge impact on your pain level. Clients who have the procedure done right before or while they are menstruating usually feel more pain. If you are squeamish about pain, it is recommended that you plan your procedure around your period. It is best to plan 3 days before/after your period cycle.

Caffeine and alcohol can increase the sensitivity of the skin during the procedure. Also, blood thinners such as ibuprofen and aspirin can cause the skin to bleed more than usual resulting in additional swelling and/or irritation.  In addition to this, blood thinners including fish oils, vitamin e, etc. can also negatively impact the retention of pigment. Please avoid consuming these substances for at least 2 weeks before the appointment.

While everyone's pain tolerance is different, lip blush tattoo procedures can be managed with proper numbing techniques and proper precare/aftercare. The mild discomfort associated with the procedure is temporary and is outweighed by the long-lasting results of having natural-looking tinted lips.
